Sun Spots Q & A

What are sun spots?

A pigment correction procedure uses laser light waves to break up deposits of pigment that are found in freckles, brown spots, liver spots, age spots, scars, and skin discolorations. The pigment is broken up and allowed to be carried away. Deep scars may carry excess melanin that may be more difficult to break up. Pigment correction procedures take approximately 30 minutes to complete and will provide long-lasting results. When pigment deposits are dark, like that which is seen in thick scars, several pigment correction procedures may be needed to help lighten the tissues. The results of this type of procedure can last several months to years, depending on the type of discoloration.

Are the Results of Pigment Correction Procedure Permanent?

Pigment correction procedures effectively lightens age spots, freckles, scars, blemishes, and skin discolorations. Treatments usually last for 30 minutes each and produce results that are extremely long-lasting. The effects of laser light technology work deep into the tissues, breaking up the pigment and melanin and making it possible for the body's immune system to come in and remove it from the area. Pigment correction procedures can provide effective and long lasting results. This does not mean, however, that age spots and sun spots will not begin to appear as the person continues to age.

What  Causes Pigment to Collect in Certain Areas?

Pigment collects in certain areas for several reasons. Areas that are constantly exposed to direct sunlight will naturally draw more pigment and become darker than other areas of the body that are not exposed. Pigment may also collect in the form of freckles, moles, age spots, sun spots, or basic skin discolorations. Scars will also draw excessive amounts of pigment. After a pigment correction procedure, pigment may not accumulate in those areas for a very long time. However, this type of procedure will not prevent new sun spots or age spots from developing as time passes.

PicoSure

The first and leading choice for comfortable and convenient tattoo removal and skin revitalization treatments for wrinkles, acne scars and pigment like freckles, sunspots and discoloration. PicoSure is the first of a new generation of aesthetic lasers that don’t rely solely on heat to burn or melt away unwanted tattoo ink or melanin, the pigment that causes dark spots in your skin. Instead, PicoSure engineers used cutting edge physics and medical science to help practitioners treat patients in a new way. Instead of building up heat, PicoSure delivers energy so rapidly (in trillionths of a second) that tiny particles that make up pigment and tattoo ink vibrate and shatter, without burning surrounding tissue. Less heat means less tissue damage and discomfort. Even more impressively, PicoSure’s revolutionary technology is designed to harness the body’s natural healing processes to restore youthful skin in ways never before possible. Using proprietary Focus lens technology, PicoSure effectively converts the laser energy into gentle pressure waves that activate Cell Signaling, the body’s natural communication processes and one of the most exciting medical discoveries in recent history.
